End of LinE over arching term one that sets out to explore the skin of the British Isles.
Accessible via national rail network and often maligned End of LinE towns seek an alt sonic understanding through an ever expanding collection of sound explorations. Archiving a turbulent period of time where a sense of belonging are stronger still, what is it that represents place?
Essentially End of LinE is a long form project that brings Landscape Architecture, Radio Transmissions and Narrative Environments somewhere close. A place where research, cultural geography and the politics of analysis merge, overlapping time periods whilst questioning the validity and heavily weighted practice of census making.
The idea that roles can be switched between host / guest, local / visitor, native / non-native, amateur / professional. Staying as long as possible in site analysis building something and nothing until patterns emerge and another End of LinE is reached.
Enjoy the ride

Listen uP!
2024Beecroft Gallery
Mixed media, sound sculpture, cardboard, plastic and metal
A burnt out drum, a tangled head of conduit piping, a pier recording from the longest in the world.
In Charles Pears’ Bathing Buoy (1934) These rebellious swimmers are sounding the alarm. Listen uP! Is a play on a warning system taken from the End of the Pier, the world’s longest.. End of! The burnt out contents might reflect the missed warnings of the past fires, crashing boats and burst blood vesseled faces. Stand close enough with your ear to the fire, you might just hear the not so distant chimes and the not so subtle disapproval of an entitled bystander wrapped up in some past sense of glory.

5 channels sound, Field recording of a closed pier and the long walk taken from below deck. A historical, influential older voice of reinforcement, contrasting with the challenging Essex University voice. Interjected with spot interviews and daytrippers.
The recording features strong language, topics that may cause offence and conversations that may not have happened in that order
